Data and Server Management for a Distributed Workflow System
نویسندگان
چکیده
Workflow servers have long been heralded as the solution that can satisfy the increasing demand for a mechanism with which to track complex business processes. Although there are many commercial products available and in use, workflow servers in general still lack some key functionality. This paper describes a workflow design that addresses current research areas in workflow systems. The specific type of workflow we design for is a CAD Design workflow. However, we believe our resulting architecture is suitable for general workflows models.

Distributed Data Management in Workflow Environments
Most existing workflow management systems (WFMSs) are based on a client/server architecture. This architecture simplifies the overall design but it does not match the distributed nature of workflow applicationsand imposes severe limitations in terms of scalability and reliability. Moreover, workflow engines are not very sophisticated in terms of data management, forgetting the fact that workflo...
متن کاملA distributed server architecture supporting dynamic resource provisioning for BPM-oriented workflow management systems
Workflow management systems have been widely used in many business process management (BPM) applications. There are also a lot of companies offering commercial software solutions for BPM. However, most of them adopt a simple client/server architecture with one single centralized workflow-management server only. As the number of incoming workflow requests increases, the single workflow-managemen...

In this paper, we will discuss business relevance factors, architectural concepts, tool approaches, and user-interface samples of the GroupFlow environment. GroupFlow offers business process and technology frameworks to set up versatile and flexible workflow systems for distributed information management within organizations and their outside communication partners. We regard the synergetic app...
متن کاملA Client/Server Architecture for Distributed Workflow Management Systems
A specific task of distributed and parallel Information Systems is workflow management. In particular, workflow management systems execute business processes that run on top of distributed and parallel Information Systems. Parallelism is due to performance requirements and involves data and applications that are spread across a heterogeneous, distributed computing environment. Heterogeneity and...
متن کاملSeparating indexes from data: a distributed scheme for secure database outsourcing
Database outsourcing is an idea to eliminate the burden of database management from organizations. Since data is a critical asset of organizations, preserving its privacy from outside adversary and untrusted server should be warranted. In this paper, we present a distributed scheme based on storing shares of data on different servers and separating indexes from data on a distinct server. Shamir...
متن کاملA Fully Distributed Architecture for Large Scale Workflow Enactment
Standard client-server workflow management systems are usually designed as clientserver systems. The central server is responsible for the coordination of the workflow execution and, in some cases, may manage the activities database. This centralized control architecture may represent a single point of failure, which compromises the availability of the system. We propose a fully distributed and...
